El Yunque National Forest - Catalina Headquarters

An effective and productive work environment depends on a series of strategies related to people, place and technology. Program objectives, aligned with the actual operations at Catalina and the USFS and USDA design guides, have been identified to provide a new work environment at the Catalina facility. These objectives are:

  • Provide choice in the work environment to support a variety of work styles.

  • Provide the infrastructure for high quality, reliable and consistent IT infrastructure and work tools.

  • Good environmental quality, healthy materials, comfort, daylight and view.

  • Increase space efficiency by combining similar uses into categories. These are:

    • Public areas; reception, meeting room and bathrooms

    • Secure staff areas that includes; support storage areas, office services (copy room, mail room, supply room, filing and storage), workspaces, meeting spaces, social hubs.

In addition,

  • Catalina is considered the first responder facilities and should be fully operational in case of an incident

  • Achieve separated public from secured staff area

  • Incident swing space needs to be provided
